Mario Vince Peterson
Vincent E. Peterson, I is presently the officer in charge of ISP, with the Trumbull County Adult Probation Department. Officer Peterson graduated from Youngstown State with a Bachelors degree in corrections. While at Youngstown State, he had an outstanding football career including being a four year starter as well as being named captain and chosen defensive lineman of the year having played under coaches Bill Narduzzi and Jim Tressel. In Coach Tressel’s book, “More than a Coach” he names him one of his favorite players to this day.
For over 30 years, Vince has worked in the field of corrections as well as law enforcement. Vince has held/worked as the Officer-in-Charge of ISP probation which was designated to deal with high risk probation offenders. He has also worked as a drug agent with the Trumbull County Drug Task Force investigating drug activity as well as having spent time working undercover. He was also assigned for a period of time to the DEA Task Force where he was involved in a multi-state Federal Investigation into drug trafficking. Vince is presently assigned as a member of the US Marshalls Violent Fugitive Task Force. He is also a trained hostage negotiator having attended training supervised by the FBI and is presently assigned to a multi-jurisdictional crisis response team, where he serves as the assistant team leader for the negotiators. He was credited by the FBI for helping to end a 14 hour standoff at Ponderosa Restaurant in Niles, Ohio.
Vince has been asked to speak on the local, state and federal level. He was requested by Congressman Tim Ryan to appear as a panel member on his “State of the Black Community” panel. He was also asked to speak to the Governor’s commission on “The socially disadvantaged Black Male” as well as to Federal and State officials on “The extinction of the black male and its effect on the African American community and the family nucleus”. He also has been the invited guest speaker for the NAACP. Vince was recently chosen as one of 16 across the state of Ohio to serve on the Attorney General’s advisory group on law enforcement training and diversity. He is co-creator of “The New Jack Officer” which is being taught to police officers across the state of Ohio. The training is now being taught at Kent State and Youngstown State Universities as well as added to CIT training in Trumbull County. It teaches Law enforcement how to deal with minorities in various situations.
Vince has not only availed himself to speak within the community, but has spoken to prisoners in the Federal systems as well as to numerous prisoners in numerous state facilities. He states he enjoys this because it allows him to actually converse with the inmates on a different level as well as allowing him to gain information on how better to work with this population of people in the apprehension of some of the areas most violent felons.
Vince has received numerous community awards as well as commendations and recognitions.
